Citrus Soldier – Thumbs Up
Citrus Soldier describes itself as: A daily webcomic randomly snatched from the good people at Flickr™. The guy that runs the site, picks a random photo from the photo sharing website Flickr, and writes a caption for it. Although he has stopped updating on a daily basis, there are over 300 funny archived photos to browse through. Check it out when you have a few minutes to spare (or especially if you have some procrastination to do). Here are some examples of his work:
Thumbs Up – Twilight: Three Wolf Moon
I have never seen or read Twilight, but I still find this parody trailer based on Three Wolf Moon internet sensation pretty funny. It also stars one of my new favorite comedians/actresses: Aubrey Plaza from Parks and Recreation.

Thumbs Up – New Sport of the Year = Ghosting
Remember Space Invaders? Well, I introduce you to the new sport taking the world by storm which is Personal Space Invading, or Ghosting as it is popularly referred to as. Developed by Hamish Blake and Andy Lee, the famous Australian comedic duo, Ghosting consists of selecting an innocent bystander and following them as close as you can for as long as you can until the person realizes it. Once the person realizes that you are “ghosting” them, the clock stops and your time is recorded. The person who can ghost for the longest possible time without being noticed is the winner. In case a tiebreaker is needed (or in case one just wants a good challenge), Speed Ghosting can be used to decide the winner. Watch Hamish and Andy’s exemplary video on Ghosting, and look for it to be on the ballot to be considered for the Olympics in years to come. Just kidding, but it would be sweet.
Sunday Movies 2
This man started the greatest dance party of all time.
Someone please get this kid some velcro and padding.
A lesson about math from which I’m sure we could all learn a thing or two.
Final project video from a third year game development student at UOIT. Surprisingly, he received an A in the class.
Another animation. The voice is someone on an acid trip going through things in a closet. Not a family friendly clip.
GM Ad Parody – Thumbs Up
During the whole General Motors bankruptcy deal recently, GM decided to release a new ad to try to save their image. While I was personally a fan of the ad itself as crisis communication (I posted about it on this blog), I can understand that a significant amount of people would be skeptical of the message. I was wondering if GM was going to be able to live up to the promises it made in the ad. Here’s another example of a skeptical viewpoint. Current TV’s “InfoMania” show dubbed the commercial for a funny parody:
Maybe GM has lost too much credibility with the public to affect them with a positive messages about the brand. I’m hopeful that they will make it out of this and I’m very interested to see what comes out of this situation.
The Hangover – Thumbs Up
Thumbs Up: The Hangover certainly has a lot of buzz around it, and I say it’s well deserved. I saw it last night, and I was definitely laughing from beginning to end. The film is about a Las Vegas bachelor party gone wrong that leaves the groom-to-be missing and the groomsmen without any recollection of the night. The three groomsmen are left to piece together the previous night and find their friend by putting together clues they find from the night before. The three main characters played by Ed Helms (the geek), Bradley Cooper (the daredevil/irresponsible one), and Zach Galifianakis (the to-be-brother in law who’s lost a marble or two) have a great dynamic together. While everyone delivers a great performance, Galifianakis is the funniest of the bunch and constantly delivers great lines. The crazy twists and turns the movie takes keeps it from getting stale.
The Hangover was a nice breath of fresh air. It was enjoyable to have a great, non-Apatow Gang, comedy. The movie is probably not for everyone, as it gets even more outrageous than director Todd Phillips’ last great comedy, Old School. (And by outrageous, I mean I’m-surprised-they-could-do-that-in-a-movie crazy.) Overall, great movie from start to finish. I only worry about it getting over-hyped and raising people’s expectations too much.
Bo Burnham – Thumbs Up
Thumbs Up: Bo Burnham was on Comedy Central’s Friday Night Standup tonight, and he was hilarious. I’m not usually not a huge fan of musical comedy, but Bo is truly funny. He’s already garnered a lot of attention on YouTube, and it looks like he’ll be able to build a successful career out of it.
