Logo Burn – Thumbs Up
Awesome pre-movie ad by BMW in a movie theater. Read more about it at Wired
Update: One thing that interests me is how I, as someone working in marketing, perceive things differently from others. For example, I saw this as a cool stunt, but a good number of commenters on reddit sound worried, concerned, or cynical about this video and would not give it a thumbs up.
“Filmography 2010″ – Thumbs Up
Great mashup of 270 movies from 2010:
Avatar – Thumbs Down
I loved Avatar. Right now, it is in my top five favorite movies of all time. However, the reason I loved it so much was because of the great 3D and visual effects. The storyline was very simplistic and left a lot to be asked for. Gregg Easterbrook, Tuesday Morning Quarterback columnist at ESPN.com, had some things to say about things getting left out of the storyline. (click here to read all his thoughts on the film) He points out many of the plot holes, such as:
- Why wasn’t horizontal drilling used?
- Why didn’t the humans get Unobtanium from the floating mountains?
- Why would the humans, obsessed about profit, want to fight expensive battles with the native Na’vi?
Also, The Huffington Post posted a picture detailing how the storyline of Avatar parallels the story in Disney’s Pocahontas.
Avatar will stand the test of time by being remembered as groundbreaking technologically. It will soon be surpassed by movies with equally great effects with better constructed, and more original, story lines.
Thumbs Up – Twilight: Three Wolf Moon
I have never seen or read Twilight, but I still find this parody trailer based on Three Wolf Moon internet sensation pretty funny. It also stars one of my new favorite comedians/actresses: Aubrey Plaza from Parks and Recreation.

RunPee – Thumbs Up
One of my favorite things to do in the summer is see a new movie in the theaters with a huge box of popcorn and an enormous soda. The only problem with this is that my tiny bladder can’t hold all that soda for an hour and a half. If it’s a great movie, I don’t want to run to the bathroom and miss anything important, but if I never use the bathroom, I’m in for a lot of discomfort at the end of the movie.
Well, RunPee, a new app for the iPhone will solve my problems. You start a timer for the movie you’re seeing when the movie begins, and it lets you know what the best times are to run to the bathroom. It even gives you a summary of what you missed. The app also lets you know if you should stay during the credits for a bonus scene. Not only is this a fun app, it has a great real world use as well!

Here is a picture of the app in action from Mashable.
The Hangover – Thumbs Up
Thumbs Up: The Hangover certainly has a lot of buzz around it, and I say it’s well deserved. I saw it last night, and I was definitely laughing from beginning to end. The film is about a Las Vegas bachelor party gone wrong that leaves the groom-to-be missing and the groomsmen without any recollection of the night. The three groomsmen are left to piece together the previous night and find their friend by putting together clues they find from the night before. The three main characters played by Ed Helms (the geek), Bradley Cooper (the daredevil/irresponsible one), and Zach Galifianakis (the to-be-brother in law who’s lost a marble or two) have a great dynamic together. While everyone delivers a great performance, Galifianakis is the funniest of the bunch and constantly delivers great lines. The crazy twists and turns the movie takes keeps it from getting stale.
The Hangover was a nice breath of fresh air. It was enjoyable to have a great, non-Apatow Gang, comedy. The movie is probably not for everyone, as it gets even more outrageous than director Todd Phillips’ last great comedy, Old School. (And by outrageous, I mean I’m-surprised-they-could-do-that-in-a-movie crazy.) Overall, great movie from start to finish. I only worry about it getting over-hyped and raising people’s expectations too much.
